Synopsis & Treatment

Synopsis:
Eric, an elderly man sets himself the task of hunting down a killer that threatens his remaining family and friends. Reminiscing over his dead wife, Eric desperately searches for answers. Unstable after the death of his wife, Eric experiences some unexplainable images and dreams. This creates the setup for a thriller that travels into the psyche of an elderly man that is disillusioned by recent events.

Treatment:
Beginning: Eric stands over a grave, he crushes a flower in anger over the grave, a close up of the flower is used whilst the flower is being crushed, a panning long shot will be used as he is walking wearily across the empty graveyard and the feeling that he is being followed shall be apparent to the audience. Then a long shot is used to demonstrate an anonymous man, of which the audience do not have any idea of who this figure is. Back at Eric’s home we witness Eric sat on his bed looking at photos of his wife, using a close up of the photo to demonstrate how happy they were together, this makes the audience aware that it was his wives grave. However this confuses the viewers as why would Eric angrily crushes a flower over her grave if they were so happy together? Straight away the audience are demonstrating the question answer model, who is the anonymous man? Why is Eric angry?  An anonymous man appears in Eric’s mind, showing the audience the faceless man murdering someone. In Eric’s vision which can also be seen by the audience, the faceless man is brutally murdering Eric’s only daughter. An extreme close up of the murderers hand is used as he slowly takes a knife from a kitchen set. Whilst Eric’s daughter is asleep in bed, the faceless man approaches her deviously with the kitchen knife he has just stolen from her kitchen. Once the murder has taken place, the vision ends with the man calmly walking back down the stairs and his steady, blood stained hand places the knife back into the knife block.Eric receives a phone call at home, dropping the phone is disbelief (the audience are unaware at this point that someone close to him has been murdered) this creates any questions that the audience are asking because they are oblivious to who or why someone has been murdered.
Middle: More murders take place and Eric believes he knows that the faceless man is the killer. It is patterned that people murdered are linked to Eric, now his wife, daughter and best friend have all been killed. With the police pushing aside the investigations due to the lack of evidence, Eric takes it upon himself to track down the killer, non-diegetic mysterious music will be used throughout his investigation to build great suspense for the audience.

Ending: Eric is unable to find any evidence of where the killer is. Fearing for his safety, he installs CCTV in all areas in his house. When he watches the footage, he observes him self putting on the faceless mask. Then he experiences flashbacks of himself washing off blood, killing and burying people close to him and his dead wife. The police arrive and he in sentenced as mentally ill and is sectioned to a mental institution. The last shot is him in a white room sat in a corner, surrounded by pictures of his dead wife.
